The Deity Is Being Target By The Pop-Star Part 4

MIKOTO

After Nanami and I had received my school uniform, we decided to go straight back to our classroom. "So, should I change my uniform right now?" I asked Nanami while were still standing in front of the door, holding a paper bag on my hand with brown uniforms inside that are the same as hers. Nanami didn't answer. Instead, she stopped on her feet and looked behind us. "Right now, I think I just heard Kurama's voice".

"Eh? σ( ̄、 ̄〃) " I looked around. "But he's not around here. Isn't he's supposedly still waiting for you at the rooftop?"

" (〃 ̄ω ̄〃)ゞ No, I mean, he just said a prayer. It's weird. He's begging for help. Or maybe it's just my imagination"

Just then, I realized something. "uh, oh, I forgot I sent Tomoe at the rooftop too".

While I am in the middle of deliberating whether I should tell Nanami or not, we heard a male student shouting while running at the corridors.

"Hey, an ostrich was running astray inside the building!"

Like a wildfire, it immediately caught everyone's attention, including ours.

"Woah! An ostrich?!"

"That's news to me!"

"Sounds fun!"

"Let's take a look."

Some of the students who wanted to see the commotion ran to take a peek. What shocked Nanami and I are the next thing we heard.

"I heard that the ostrich is being chased by a ball of fire or something!"

"What the hell?"

"You're not just making things up, right?"

"Hey, it's coming this way!"

"Someone, go and call a teacher!"

Nanami and I looked at each other. "TOMOE!!" is what immediately entered my mind and judging Nanami's reaction, it seems she does think so too.

The ostrich with a familiar black necklace ran in front of us with something familiar chasing it.

"We knew it! It's Tomoe's will-o-wisp!"

Of course, if the fox yokai didn't intended it, no one will be able to see his fox-fire. Unless there's probably someone who has enough spiritual powers to see them, caught a glimpse on his fires.

In my surprise, Nanami suddenly ran off, "Hey, watch out!" She jumped towards a little lady and covered her to protect her away from the ostrich's path. Flinging my paper bag infront of me, I also jumped into the corridor but my reason is something else: to catch Kurama!

Wham!

The ostrich fell unconscious after a complete hit from me. I'm aware it was reckless but it's better to be hit by my soft folded clothes than getting a headbutt.

"Ow! Are you all right?" I heard Nanami tries to talk to the familiar little lady.

" (☆︿@) Urgh...", is her only reply.

I went to their side and checked the girl, "Yep, I think she's totally fine though we should still bring her to the nurse office", I assured the land deity. "But take a look at that first. The necklace", I pointed to her the big bird that was lying on the floor.

"This pendant..." she mumbled, realizing what might have happened.

"TOMOE! COME HERE!!" \\\\ ٩ (๑'△'๑) ۶ ////

Okay. Cleaning up after Tomoe's mess isn't easy. We had to convince the school that the ostrich was an obligation of Tomoe-in-human-form to return it from anywhere it originally came from, and we're glad that they believed us. We also used the excuse of bringing the unconscious classmate named Nekota Ami to the School Clinic to also hide Kurama-in-ostrich-form away from everyone's attention.

" (╬•᷅д•᷄╬) No one was hurt, so maybe it turned out all right. But what nerves you have to go on a rampage at school?!" Nanami burst her anger towards Tomoe.

"But I was just protecting you", the fox familiar defended himself with crocodile tears.

"Then, why is Kurama an ostrich? And please, Mikoto, will you stop laughing?"

"Ahahahah, sorry sorry. Even though things became so messy, I still find this part hilarious. " I still laughed to my heart's content before stopping.

"Don't be angry at Tomoe, Nanami. The idiot just genuinely wants to do his familiar work. If it weren't for his early interjection, Kurama would have eaten you. Though Tomoe doesn't need to do his two different familial jobs at the same time", I tried to smooth things out by starting to explain in a way I enjoy.

" ~(>_<~) Wa-wa-wait!! Please explain more clearly!", the land deity demanded.

"He wants to eat you so that he can be the land deity but, I, Tomoe thought that I can make you, Lady Nanami, a better land deity with all my skills by preparing him as dinner. Ostrich meat has low calories and is rich in iron and minerals. If you eat him, he can become a part of you as the land deity", Tomoe explained the unimportant thing.

Before Nanami could ask more, I interfered with a proper explanation. "That Kurama isn't a human. He's a yokai called a crow tengu".

It completely shocked Nanami, "Huh?! \(X.x)/ I thought you were supposed to be a fallen angel from hell?!",

"But...ヽ( ̄ω ̄ ) I think that's almost the same thing", I mumbled while thinking Kurama's origin. But at the right time, things will reveal itself to everyone so I don't need to tell the details.

"A-Anyways, turn him back to normal the way he is", Nanami ordered Tomoe while pointing at the weary big bird on the floor.

"But tonight's dinner..." the fox continued his display of adorable, big, puppy eyes.

"(○`O'○)/ I SAID TURN HIM BACK!", she yelled at her familiar before turning her attention to the ostrich with a smile.

"Listen Kurama. I'll save you this time but stop bothering us and causing trouble at school, okay?" Kurama-ostrich's eyes became teary and nod. "Promise?" Nanami gently asked and once again the ostrich's head nod.

In one swing of Tomoe's fingers, Kurama returned to his normal form. "Huff... I thought, I was a goner...", he said, gasping for some air.

"Neh Kurama", I called his attention while holding a first-aid kit.

"What do you want? Do you have problems with me being a tengu?!" he snarled at us. Maybe we wounded up his ego.

"( ̄'ヘ' ̄)┌ Come on, stop that arrogant attitude of yours. If you keep it up, you won't be able to make real friends", I frowned at him while handing the kit to Nanami.

She immediately understood and sat in front of Kurama. "Now, let me see your face", she gently smiled once more and attended to the bruise on his cheek. "Does it hurts? Let's get it to disinfect first".

" ଘ( - ω -).:* No, just leave it", the crow tengu yokai brushed her off but Nanami didn't agree.

"What are you saying? Pop-stars can't have scars on their faces. I don't like you but there are tons of girls out there who do and it's a disservice to those girls if you don't take care and do a proper job to maintain your looks".

Kurama blushingly averted his eyes and agreed "Right..." He then let Nanami bandage his cheek for him.

ハ___ハ "Hold it! (💢^◡^) Why in the end, am I the only one getting scold at?" Tomoe disagreed at the result and interjected in between the two. "And this guy gets his injuries treated?! What's the meaning of this?!!"

"But you're not hurt, Tomoe", Nanami pointed out.

"Hmph, It's thanks to my superior abilities that's why I didn't have any single scratch in me" he scoffed and their bickering went on again which made me smile.

"Mikoto", a familiar soothing voice echoed inside my head. I looked outside the window where I thought I heard the voice coming. "Did I just heard Mikage-sama?"

"Mikoto, what's wrong?" Nanami called me back to my sense. "Ah, it's nothing, hehe", I waved my hands in front of me. "Oh, by the way, Tomoe can you bow for a moment?"

He looked at me with questions but still did as I requested. I gently pat his head, "Good job Tomoe, for protecting Nanami. Thank you. I'm sorry, I can't think of anything to reward you, but this", I praised him sweetly with a smile while gently caressing his soft hair.

"Oh, the fox is blushing", Kurama butted in which makes the familiar jolted.

"S-stop. Which of this is counted as a reward? You're just humiliating me!" Tomoe immediately turned his back on us with his crossed arms. "But I will let it slide for now. I'm going to leave now since I'm done with my job here. I still need to prepare for dinner. Hmph!" Then he disappeared into the thin air.

"How rude, even though I'm sincerely grateful to him ( ̄ε ̄ ; )", I pouted.

After that eventful noon, we returned to our classroom as if nothing happened. The girls made a big fuss when they saw the bandage at Kurama's cheeks but he just said it was because of when he tried to stop the havocking wild ostrich before it hurt anyone but he failed. No one thought of him as a loser but instead, they thought he just done a heroic deed. Nanami and I really thinks there's something wrong with everyone's head.

But I think it doesn't matter anyway. What's important is that things still ended up smoothly for everyone.

That evening, just a few hours after we reached home, an unexpected guest came into the shrine.

                                        *deadly stares* .                                           ハ _ ハ ☆ ~('▽^人) ←←←\(ⓛ⌓ⓛ\ )

"What is it Kurama?" Nanami and I with the onibi children welcomed him and he reached out a plastic bag to her. "Oh.. is this..."

"Chicken meats!" beamed by Kotetsu and Onigiri.

"Yes, they're the best chicken meats that you can find here!" Kurama boasted while handing the rest of the plastic bags to the wisps children. "This is for my apologies and gratefulness towards you, Nanami" he winked but her attention isn't on him anymore.

" o(≧▽≦)o WOW! Tomoe, let's have some grilled chicken tonight!" Nanami, who was from a poor family was overjoyed with the many amounts of meat she can eat.

Since he can't say anything to change Nanami's mind, we had a chicken festival that night and Tomoe is the one who grilled the chickens against his will.
