MIKOTO
Onikiri and Kotetsu guided us to our rooms. While lying down, I can't stop thinking about whether what happened today was just a dream or not.
I'm afraid that when I woke, I'm back in my own bedroom and I'm not Mikoto anymore. But eventually, my eyes felt tired and I slowly fall asleep.
The next morning, I got woke up early as usual when I'm going to school.
Yawn~
"I had a good night's sleep. I feel like I had a lot of dreams..."
" Σ(°△°|||)︴ UWAH! Where am I? "
I was shocked when I saw my unfamiliar surroundings. I hurriedly sat up and looked at around before I remembered I'm actually in an anime world.
" (¯∇¯٥) Ahaha.. I almost forgot about it"
Who would have believed such events really exists.
"Onikiri? Kotetsu? ", I called the attention of the shrine's spirits to ask for help since I'm sure they're just in Nanami's room.
The door slid open gently as I felt their presence came closer to me.
"Yes, Mikoto-dono. How can we help you? They cheerfully greeted me.
"Erm, first, just call me Mikoto. I'm not comfortable with the -dono honorifics"
"But we're just the will-o'-wisps that serves this shrine..", Onikiri said.
"..while Mikoto-dono is Nanami-sama's friend", added by Kotetsu.
"Mikoto-dono can also be Nanami-sama's priestess if you like", chorused the two.
"Priestess? ( •́ _ •̀)?", I repeated.
Come to think of it, Mikage-sama said something like that too.
"Yes, Mikoto-dono", the spirits beamed.
"Like we said yesterday, you seem to have a gift of spiritual powers", Kotetsu explained to me.
"Even though it's just very vague, but you just need some practice", Onikiri continued.
As I'm aware, maybe it's also Mikage-sama who's behind this "spiritual powers" they're talking about.
"But first, I think we need Tomoe's opinion", I told them. "..since Nanami and I don't have any ideas what to do in this temple."
"For now, help me with something. I don't have any extra clothes with me and I also need to prepare food for Nanami and I. Then you two can go back to Nanami's side before she woke up", I ordered the fire spirits and they gladly obeyed me.
Onikiri brought me a set of plain traditional Japanese clothes and also helped me in wearing it since I don't have any experience wearing any of these kinds of clothes.
When I reached the kitchen, Kotetsu already brought some vegetables on the table and prepared some woods for the cooking.
"Hey, wait! I don't know how to cook using woods!", I told Kotetsu since I was raised in a modern-day life where we cook using an electric stove.
I think it's already surprised to see the daughter of a successful businesswoman who could cook despite we can just hire some maids. I thank Mom that she raised me how to be independent.
"It's not a problem", Kotetsu said and a fire was lit on the woods stuck inside the stove made of stones.
" ( ̄▽ ̄ ٥)ゞ but I guess we would still need a proper stove next time", I thought while scratching my head in disbelief.
~ʚĭɞ~
After I finished cooking, I decided to just carry breakfast to her bedroom when I heard a loud voice coming from her room.
"EEEEHHH?!"
Oh, she's finally awake. Too bad, I didn't saw an important scene.
I knocked on the door before sliding it open to see Nanami with her shocked facial expression and I guess that the two shrine spirits are kneeling before her.
I let out a slight laugh before entering her room, "Good morning Nanami. Have some breakfast first before doing your duties as a land deity"
Nanami finished her breakfast hurriedly as the little spirits seem to make her feels pressured. I volunteered to help her in her duties which I knew is cleaning the whole temple.
"This is a deity's job??", Nanami whined.
Since mom didn't hire any maid despite our home is very spacious, I didn't have a hard time cleaning the part of the temple I was assigned to since I was accustomed to doing such chores, Except there are no things such as vacuum cleaner to use but at least I have someone to divide with the cleaning unlike at home.
I was cleaning the room that the spirits called worship hall when something fell when I accidentally bumped on a table and a circular mirror coated with metallic housing with beautiful carvings on it. Luckily, my response was fast and I caught it with my hands.
"Hmm..?"
It was a beautiful mirror but I also feel like something was enigmatic from it. I was about to stare at it when I heard Nanami passed by.
"After this comes weeding", I heard Kotetsu talked behind Nanami.
"Oh, I'm going to help ", I called them as I put down gently the mirror on the table in the front of the worship hall.
" (っ=﹏=c) Uhm, excuse, but I've never said I'd be the Land deity"
"Wha-what are you saying!", the fire spirits cried. "There's no one besides you to protect this temple now that Tomoe-dono left. We, Onikiri and Kotetsu are just the shrine's spirits who have served this temple for so many years. And we shall serve you too Nanami-sama! Order us anything you like!"
"..but you don't clean..", Nanami uttered under her breath. I'm behind Nanami that's why I heard it but I doubt the spirits understood it.
" (ᵔ꒳ᵔ ٥) ...and I feel like we're just being taken advantage of ..", I whispered to her with a slight laugh.
She just sighed deeply agreeing to what I just said. Well, because it's just what she's thinking right now.
"But if this is just a small return for them letting us stay here and for the foods, it's just fine right?", I consoled her as I slightly pat her shoulder.
She smiled at me and agreed, "Yeah, I can do it"
"Wondering...", Nanami looked at the two spirits. "Who is Tomoe, anyway?"
"He is a familiar that served Mikage-sama", Onikiri replied first.
"Originally, he was a wild fox demon, but Mikage-sama took him in here as a substitute for stone guardians lion-dogs", Kotetsu explained to us.
Though I already knew about it.
"..since Mikage-sama hates dog", added by Onikiri.
"Oh, I know that part ( ̄▽ ̄) ", Nanami muttered.
"Now, now, let's go with the weeding already so we can finish earlier and we can have a delicious meal with some tea. I saw some in the kitchen earlier", I hug Nanami's arm and tug her gently.
" ٩ (๑˃̵ᴗ˂̵) ﻭ If you won't work, you shall not eat, right?"
"Ahaha, yes you're right Mikoto. Let's do our best!", Nanami agreed.
I faced in the direction of the two spirits, "you two already know what to do, right? You will prepare us some refreshments while we purify the yard", I told them.
"Yes, Mikoto-dono! Nanami-sama!", the two happily obeys.
