In the Kingdom of Jurald, students were walking to the Jurald Academy, were the admission exams are taking place. A boy in his teens, with heterochromia, and fairly long jet-black hair, was flying in high speeds to the academy.
After landing on the front gate of the academy, he attracted the attentions of the pure-blood demons. He was wearing the uniform of the half-blood or other beings. A group of five male demons approached him.
The one who talked to him was a member of the House of Kokabiel, the boy has mossy green hair paired with brown eyes. He wears a uniform that is similar to the pure-bloods, meaning he is also a pure demon.
"Nice of you to show up, half-blood of the House of Karnstein. Your father must have pitied you that you may not know anything about the outside world." The boy said. The other just laughed.
"How cocky can a weakling get? I think I have no reason to destroy you right here." The boy with jet-black hair said, he didn't even let out his aura after the provocation.
"What did you just say?" The one from the Kokabiel asked, getting slightly pissed. He let out his aura that is equal to a high class demon, since he's born from a pure-blood family, he obtained a great amount of mana and power.
"I am from the House of Kokabiel, Drynth Kokabiel. I'll be looking forward to our match, half-blood." The boy from the Kokabiel clan introduced. He then suppressed his aura and left the scene with his 4 lackeys that are probably at mid class.
The black haired boy sighed in relief, he didn't want to stir up trouble on the admission exam so that he can easily pass.
It was then, a girl with the same hair color as the boy from the House of Kokabiel, came beside him and gave his right shoulder a pat.
"Sorry about that, my brother is just that cocky, don’t let it get to you." The girl said with a gentle smile on her face. She also has brown eyes, her hair is tied up in a double ponytail.
She also wears the uniform of the half-bloods which made the boy wonder but he didn't pursue any further. He just gave her a nod then walked towards the arena.
A voice of a middle-aged woman was heard thru the voice of the academy, a magic that can amplify one's sound as long as it is one of the admins of the academy. It contained the contents of the exams.
"Welcome to Jurald Academy, the contents of the exam will now be stated. First is a practical exam in a form of a battle, the ten examiners to win will be admitted. Then they will be facing the second exam which involves the count of the amount of mana. Then get ready for the exams!" The announcer finished.
The students taking the exams were now making their way to the individual waiting area of the arena. Some are bold enough to let their aura out, while the others are anxious about the identity of their opponent.
The arena is a coliseum that has been built hundreds of years ago. Although it is that old, it is properly maintained using magic. It is also fortified using multiple barrier spells to contain powers close to demon lord class individuals.
It can also accommodate 5,000 individuals with a separate area for the commentators and other VIPs. The battleground of the arena also has multiple barrier that can contain powers close to demon king class. But its downside is that it cannot stop shockwaves from powerful spells.
The jet-black haired boy just waited in his individual waiting area calmly. He didn't even bother watching the other battles from the visuals provided by the academy.
Seven matches passed and it was his turn. Of course, not knowing his enemy is already a given, but he didn't pay any mind about it.
He also made a flashy entrance, using teleportation magic. It's a magic that was forgotten thousands of years ago. The spectators seeing that all gasped in awe.
Upon opening his eyes, he saw his opponent—. The boy with the mossy green hair, Drynth Kokabiel.
The students and judges witnessed one of the ancient magic that is forgotten, being performed by one of the examiners that is a half blood.
Teleportation magic, Giram, the fastest way to travel and one of the forgotten ancient magic.
It was the first time they saw a powerful magic that is successfully executed. Although it is literally made only for transportation, it was the most convenient and easiest way to travel back in the day.
The jet-black haired boy faced his opponent with a provocative smile. It was a fateful match—or rather a match set up by the boy.
The mossy green haired noble, Drynth Kokabiel, got surprised by his opponent's entrance but quickly regained his composure. He didn't pay any heed about the power of his opponent. He just wanted to beat the crap out of the half-blood and prove his power.
I want to have fun, but I have to get in the academy no matter what.
The jet-black haired boy resolved his mind to destroy the opponent in front of him, but deep in his heart, he wants to play with the toy in front of him.
"That was a nice entrance, half-blood. Looks like I need to go all out on you." Drynth Kokabiel said provoking the boy. The boy just chuckled and looked straight to him.
"I don't need any flattery Mr. Kokabiel, but please do go all out as you will still lose to me." The boy said in a calm manner.
"The match will only be decided if the other side is incapacitated, killed, or gives up. Now then ready yourselves." The middle aged woman with a Nordic appearance said.
As the two examinees faced each other, the students and also the nobles quietly spectated, waiting who will do the first move.
The middle aged woman then raised her right arm, glanced at the two examinees then quickly swung it down.
The first to make a move was Drynth, he made a condensed orb with lightning radiating inside it. He even prepared the spell beforehand since it takes a lot of time to prepare.
The condensed orb of the Kokabiel clan that boasts the power to rival Zeus's lightning, he planned to use it as a trump card but the enemy in front of him was stronger. Upon knowing that it's already good for launching, he quickly glanced at the jet-black haired boy who did not even prepare a barrier.
"Take this! huaahhh!!" He threw the orb at the speed of light to the boy. A large explosion then occurred in the arena, the shockwave was powerful that it even threw away some of the students watching to the air.
A crater then formed on the ground where the jet-black haired boy was standing. After the smoke cleared up, Drynth could not believe his eyes.
The boy was still standing, unscathed, there was no sign of explosion from his appearance. His uniform was still clean but there were some dust. Furthermore, his barrier wasn't even damaged in the slightest.
Drynth just gritted his teeth.
"H-How?"
He asked the boy. The boy, patted the dust from his uniform. Drynth thought that he was being mocked but did nothing to attack.
He already released his trump card, he can't use forbidden magic because it's already stated on the name, it will use up his life energy and, chances are he may cease to exist.
"Hmm.. so? Is that the power of the pure-bloods? I could've sworn that the demons back in the days can even give me a scratch or two… Looks like you’ve all weaken now.”
The boy said, in a serious but mockingly tone. He was clearly wondering why the magic by the pure demons are so feeble in this era. Although the concentration of magic is still at the level where human can still contain.
The words that the boy spat out made Drynth to wonder what the boy was saying but he can't afford to do that now. This is a battlefield, one can not be careless as the enemy can harm or kill you.
He began to think of a way to destroy the enemy before him.
'It seems like I need to use the lowest forbidden magic.... so that I have a high chance of surviving, but.... will it work?'
Drynth thought for a second, he already acknowledged the enemy before him. Normal spells won’t possibly work since his trump card was even negated.
He resolved himself to use the forbidden magic that can drastically increase one’s power output.
'There's no other choice, I'll just do it.'
He only has 2 choices, Do or Die.. But in reality, he only has 1 choice if he uses a forbidden spell, that is to die.
Forbidden magic is a type of magic that can only be wield by, either a mage or a demon noble. It uses life energy instead of mana since it is an unstable type of magic.
At the very least, you can only escape with your lifespan decreased by 5-10% if you use the lowest one.
Other forbidden spells consumes about 50%, and sometimes it uses one’s core.
A pair of bat-like wings erupted on the back of Drynth. Demon wings, when a demon let out its wings, their power and mana increases dramatically. The power output will also be increased by 50-75%.
He began to chant the spell. Black smoke then covered his body, which is his life energy. His wings began to consume the mana in the very arena.
Seeing this, instead of getting cold feet, the jet-black haired boy smirked.
'Now its getting interesting.’ he thought.
