Chapter 1: Awareness

What is this? Why did this happen?
I came to our schools rooftop at the end of the day, because my friend called me.
After arriving I saw him near the edge of the building

“Justin?”

I called out to him, and when he looked at me he was crying.

“I’m sorry Henry”.

Were the last words my best friend said before jumping at the school rooftop,
I failed to reach him.

Now, he is on the ground covered in the pool of blood, not moving, 
I can hear the clamor of the other students who saw the scene,
 I couldn’t move from my spot after what just happened.

After a while I heard the sound of ambulance and snap myself out of the trance.
The teachers will probably question me from what happened so I should go down.

Turning around I found my friends phone on the ground and picked it up;
 it was opened and it suddenly played a video message that seemed finish recording, 
upon playing it I saw the vulgar people who were surely the cause of his suicide.

Something inside me stirred. 
Emotions and thoughts that I never knew I had.

I can hear footsteps coming from the entrance,
 and when the door opened, it was the teachers.
 They found me and walk me to the counselor’s office. 
They questioned me on what happened and 
I told them the events prior to the time I met my friend in the rooftop.

They now know it was suicide but they don’t
 know the cause and will be investigated so 
they let me go for the day and were told to rest.

I returned to my home, it’s not far from school, 
my little sister and parents should be arriving 
home soon so I went to my room and lied down.
I tried to reminisce what happened this last week. 
Everything was normal by then.
Or was supposed to, but I know something was off.
I closed my eyes and recalled 
the events the week after this incident.

I woke up the usual time and prepared for school.
Leaving my house I walk leisurely until I reached school.
Upon reaching the school gate I bumped into my best friend. 
His name is Justin, and once he spotted me, he called out.

“Henry! Nice timing! Can you help a buddy out?” (Justin)

Seems like he is carrying some weird statue.

“Justin what is that?” (Henry)

“Oh this? It’s the art project I made! What do you think?” (Justin)

Oh right, he told me that their class are making clay arts, 
I looked at it once again then nodded.

“You did great in making a dinosaur chicken” (Henry)

“It’s Godzilla, you idiot!”(Justin)

“No way that’s Godzilla, you dumbass!”(Henry)

We were pretty noisy as we headed to the gym. 
Justin comes here every morning to practice,
 he is the ace basketball player 
of our school and his coach lent him a spare key.
After helping him set things up, 
I left the gym while he stayed and continued to practice. 
Along the way I passed by a beautiful girl heading to gym, 
she glanced at me as if saying hello,
her name is Haley, and one of the well-known girls in the school.
 She and Justin are apparently 
really close that there are rumors that they are going out.

A match made in heaven is what I always hear from 
the other student but I can’t deny them. 
Justin Rodriguez is a good-looking guy, 
an ace of the basketball team, and aside from 
him having no artistic sense he is smart.

Then there is Haley Guinto, 
the girl who is ranked the number one beauty and smartest in school, 
the cheerleading squad captain and the daughter of a popular politician. 

While I was thinking about the two,
 I realized that I’m at my classroom and sat down on my seat, 
after a while the teacher came and homeroom started.

During break time, Justin messaged me saying the two of us should meet up at the 
gates and go home together, seems like he has something important to tell me.
The two of us aren’t classmates so we can’t hangout much during breaks.
After telling him ok, I went and search for something to eat until the break was over.
Throughout the entire day were all lectures and some occasional annoyances from my 
neighboring seat who wants my impression of her new favorite show and other stuff. 

Once classes was over I thought to myself while preparing to leave 
“another day will pass by”, or so I thought when I saw something 
I can’t understand above Justin’s head when the two of us meet up once more.
