A week passed without anymore incidents. The current day was about to end yet we failed to find any kind of lead.
I kind of stayed up until late last night because I was hooked by the game I was playing. I was not able to get my hands off my controller until I was able to find the murderer. Due to my lack of sleep, I was not able to stop myself for waiting for the clock to strike at five so I can go back to my room and rest.
“I have an announcement.” The boss called out.
All of us dropped whatever we were doing and turned our attention towards him, except for Gary who was still asleep.
“I have some personal matters to attend to. Tomorrow is a day off,” the boss announced.
“That is fantastic! I love you boss!” I uttered in excitement.
“Ehem!” Miss Barbara gave me a soul piercing gaze.
“I love him as my boss, of course.” I added to try to quell Miss Barbara’s anger.
“I already deposited your pay, use it on your own discretion. That’s it, dismissed.” The boss left as soon as he was done talking.
“Alright!” I stretched my arms upwards to relax my strained back.
“It’s go home time already? Finally!” Gary got up from the sofa.
“Why do you speak as if you were working all this time?” Miss Barbara asked.
“I did work hard, in my dreams!” Gary giggled.
“Jo said we got the day off tomorrow. I’ll be off now, bye.” Miss Barbara waved goodbye before she left the room.
“Wha? Is that for reals?” Gary scratched his head.
“You will be able to sleep all day without any distractions! Why do you sound disappointed?” I asked.
“It’s just that there’s that different kind of satisfaction when ya sleep and everyone’s workin’ ya know?”
“Hm… I kind of get that feeling.” I replied.
The world is unfair; getting the favorable situation while others get the less favorable one always gives a different kind of sweetness to it.
“If you guys are not going to do something productive, just get your asses out of here.” Keen scowled.
“Oh, the dog bait is bein’ all grumpy again!”
Keen did not seem to mind Gary’s teasing. He continued on fiddling with his device despite the sudden vacation day tomorrow.
“I will be going now. I need to get some sleep.” I said before I walked out of the office while Gary continued making fun of Keen.
I went straight to my room and took a shower as I stretched the stiff parts of my body, especially the back of my neck. I then lied to my bed straight after.
The softness of my bed overwhelmed me, as if charming me to my slumber. I shut my eyes and all went black.

“I still need to fulfil my promise! I don’t want to die!”
A desperate man’s voice whispered in the back of my mind which woke me up. I felt somewhat… heavy. I looked at my phone and saw that it was just eight in the evening. I tried to go back to sleep but it was no use.
It was as if there was an itch inside that I was not able to scratch. I hate this feeling. Why was that voice sound so familiar anyway? I decided to get some air to refresh my mind. I put my jacket on and went out of the premises.
The air was still yet the night was cold. The bright moon lit up the way alongside the distant stars. I did not actually have a destination in mind but somehow, my feet seemed to know where to go. Is this what they call intuition, or maybe a premonition?
My mind was in pure chaos. I just followed what my body wanted to do. I walked for a long while but the leisurely time that I was looking forward to gave me even more discomfort. My hands felt cold yet my chest was burning.
Bam!
I heard a loud sound, as if some kind of structure was destroyed. I ran towards the direction where the noise came from without thinking twice. I was about to turn on an intersection when I saw multiple figures. I quickly stopped on my tracks, hid myself in one of the walls then took a peek.
There were three demons surrounding a silver haired girl wearing something that looks similar to a military uniform. The demons look like goblins with bat wings, more like imps. They have spears on hand, pointed towards the girl.
I was about to jump in to assist when I noticed there was dead imp on the floor, bathed in blood. Near the corpse was a wall of concrete, part of it was turned into rubble.
The girl was not helpless at all. In fact, she was armed with a rapier on her right hand. Since I was unsure of what was going on, I decided to remain as a spectator for now.
“Who are you? How come a simple human can defeat one of us?” One of the imps asked with his squeaky voice.
“You don’t have to know, you’ll die anyway,” the girl replied without a shred of fear.
“You cocky little lass!” The long nosed imp shouted as he thrust his spear towards the girl.
The girl avoided the attack and kicked the demon, knocking him back. The two other imps took the opportunity to jump towards the lass with their spears. The girl used her rapier to deflect both spears by wielding it in a sweeping motion.
The girl was about to thrust the imps with her sword when she suddenly stopped. A spear from the long nosed imp went flying towards her. She jumped and rolled to avoid the projectile. As she stood up, she was holding a spear on her left hand which she obtained from the dead imp on the floor.
She threw the spear towards the long nosed imp which impaled him on the chest, splurting with blood. The imp tried to remove the spear but it lacked the strength do so. He gave out creepy cries of pain before he fell flat to the ground which pushed the spear even further to his body.
The other imps saw the horrible scene which induced them to flinch in fear. They were stunned for a second, enough time for the girl to appear behind one them. She thrust her rapier on the back of the demon’s head, piercing through until the blade came out from its widely opened mouth.
The only surviving imp lost its will to fight. He dropped his weapon and used its wings to fly away. The girl stood still, closed her eyes then whispered a chant.
“Purge thy enemy, Chains of Divinity!” The girl pushed her fist in thin air.
Two chains emitting a white radiance came out of the floor and chased the flying imp. The chains wrapped around the imp’s legs and pulled it down with force, slamming him to the ground.
The demon flailed wildly but the chains did not come off. Suddenly, two more chains came from the walls, binding each of the goblins arms. He used all his strength to force out his way but it was futile.
The girl opened her palm then suddenly, all four chains began pulling the imp in four different directions. The demon’s hoarse voice filled with pain echoed with its eyes that looked like it was about to pop out anytime.
No matter how the imp struggled, the chains kept pulling until he was completely ripped apart; separated into unequal pieces of his former self.
What the hell is she? I was not able to sense any presence of a demon inside her yet she was so strong. Although those were just lesser demons, being able to singlehandedly deal with four of them was still amazing. What was that last move? Is that some sort of magic?
“I know you are there, come out.” The girl uttered.
A sudden throb of nervousness filled me, am I in trouble? I took a deep breath to somehow recover my composure. I came out of hiding when suddenly, an imp jumped out of nowhere. The girl quickly pierced its chest with her sword, producing another corpse.
So she was not referring to me? What am I supposed to do now? I was already out in the open, dumbfounded. The girl then looked at me with an intense glare.
“What? You’re not going to transform? I dislike killing ones in human form,” said the girl.
“I was just passing by when I got a little curious as to the loud noises that came from here.” I replied with an awkward smile.
“You’re not fooling me. You have a demon, and a strong one at that. A whole other tier compared to these low level ones.” The girl walked towards me.
“I do not have any intention to fight.” I raised my hands to prove that I was not hostile.
She continued walking then when she got closer, she pointed her rapier towards my neck, almost touching it. I lifted my face up so that my chin will not touch the blade.
Why is this even happening? Nothing actually went my way today!
“How am I supposed to believe you, demon?” Her face did not show it but I somehow felt her anger.
Upon looking up close, her face was very familiar. It was as if I knew her my whole life yet I was also sure that it was the first time I saw her. It was as if a memory was inside me without knowing that it was. What the hell is happening to me?
“Sh-sheena?” A name of a girl came out of my mouth.
“Who are you? How do you know my name?” She asked with a frown.
“Can you at least remove th-that thing from me? It is hard to breathe.”
Sheena lowered her weapon but did not sheathe it, showing that she was still wary of me.
“Now, speak.”
“Y-you are Damien’s niece, right?” I hesitantly said.
I was actually not sure as to what I was talking about but somehow, I knew that I was correct.
“How do you know my uncle?” Her eyes widened and her voice became shaky.
“I’m his friend. We used to exchange information regarding demons and stuff. He bragged how pretty his niece to me once.” I lied.
“I see.” Sheena looked downwards and sheathed her sword. “If you are indeed his friend, maybe you can help me with something.”
Based on her reaction, the memories inside me are somehow true. I decided to rely on it for now with sprinkle a bunch of white lies to avoid any bloodshed.
