“What a bad timing.” The boss uttered as he stared at the blinking red lights.

“It must be Gaap’s men, you guys should leave now.” Sir Ron removed his eyeglasses and placed it in his pocket. “Cristine, kindly escort our guests out.”

“Will do. Please follow me.” Cristine commanded as she led the way.

Her attitude sure did shift by 180 degrees. The boss and I tailed Cristine until we were almost out of the property. Cristine was about to open the gate when she suddenly stopped.

“They are already waiting outside.” She muttered as she looked down.

“So, no choice but to fight?” I nervously asked.

“No, it would be dangerous if you guys got identified by Gaap now. It would hinder your movement during your investigations. We’ll take another path.”

We followed Crisitine around to the “another path” she mentioned. We were walking at a fast pace but it kind of gave me the feeling that we were still moving slowly. It must have been because the place was too big.

“By the way, how are we going to get the boss’ car if we are not going through the front?” I asked.

“There is another car at the back. You guys will escape through the rear exit. It is hidden so it should be less dangerous to go through than the front.” Cristine replied without looking back.

“So we are leaving the boss’ car?”

“That’s basically the smartest thing to do. I’ll just bring it to your office later.” Cristine replied.

“That’s nice! You’ll get an opportunity to see Keen!” I excitedly announced.

“I didn’t think about that!” The girl stopped and looked at me with a face painted with a mixture of surprise and happiness.

I was not able to control my laughter from her reaction while the boss just shook his head with a smirk. We resumed walking until we arrived at a stylish blue car with no roof. I think they call these types of car as convertibles.

“We’re here. Use this car for now to escape, be careful.” Cristine handed the keys to the boss.

“Thanks.” The boss grabbed the keys and the two of us quickly rode the car.

It was by leaps and bounds better than the boss’ ride. Although his car was already impressive, this car just really screamed of luxury. The softness of the seat was top notch. I would prefer sleeping here instead of my bed if I had the choice.

Cristine went near the walls and pushed a button, a door which I did not notice a while ago opened.

The boss started the engine and we went out at full speed while I waved goodbye to Cristine. As soon as we were out of the property, the door closed again as if it did not exist in the first place.

We went quite fast that the cold breeze brushed through my hair, it felt really good though. Damn, I was getting drowsy that I was not able to control my yawn. Who can blame me? It was already really late plus the seat was very fluffy.

“Don’t let your guard down yet,” the boss uttered as he had his eyes on the road.

“Sorry boss, I’ll keep an eye out.” I replied as I leaned forward and slapped my face to keep myself awake.

I looked around and there was nothing unusual. The road was almost empty probably because of the time. It was also unusually bright for a night trip since the moon was currently at its full power.

I was about to give out another yawn when a light flashed from behind, probably near Sir Ron’s property. It was like lightning, but I was sure as hell that it was not one.

“It seems like we got spotted.” The boss uttered as he looked at the rear mirror.

I looked back and I saw something chasing us. It was catching up fast that I was not actually sure what it was until it got closer. It was something that looked like a male centaur, half man and half horse.

Its human body had a dark colored skin with tattoo like markings all over. His horse body had a dark violet skin and black hooves. His long silver hair fluttered while a long black horn protruded from his forehead. Maybe he was more like half a demon and half a unicorn?

“An unlucky night, it’s a major demon.” The boss uttered.

“You can tell from this far?” I asked.

I usually can only tell if one is a major demon based on its aura. With the demon still at a distance, I was still not able to feel a glimpse of its energy.

“Based on our experience, all lesser demons do not have horns.”

“I see, so that explains why he was still able to keep up with us even in this speed.”

The enemy was getting closer so the boss stepped on the gas even harder. It was a bit too fast for me that I was getting a bit dizzy. After our acceleration, the enemy was no longer able to close the distance between us, but he was not being left behind either.

“Can you go faster boss?” I asked.

“I’m afraid this is as fast as it goes.”

I looked back again and I saw the centaur pulling something from its back, it was a bow. He also drew an arrow from his back, nocked, and aimed it at us. This is bad!

“Boss! It has a projectile!” I warned.

“…” The boss was just silent as he tried to focus at the road and the rear view mirror at the same time.

“It shot!” I shouted.

The boss quickly shifted our direction to the left to avoid the arrow then got back on track. The arrow pierced the cold cement, leaving deep cracks. We would have been in huge trouble if it hit us.

“Can you fight in a distance?” The boss asked.

“Unfortunately, I cannot.” I replied as I focused at the enemy’s movement.

Another arrow was already aimed at us; he could shoot at any moment. I do not have any kind of projectile to attack with plus I also do not want to show my despicable self to the boss.

“Take the wheels then.” The boss proposed.

“I thought you would not let me drive until I get a license?” I asked.

“I don’t think it is the time to worry about that.”

The boss was right. No police man would even dare to stop us to check for my license while we were running from a monster.

“The moment he shot, I’ll dodge it again. After that, we’ll switch positions. You go under, I’ll go over.” The boss instructed.

“Got it.” I responded without taking my eyes off the enemy.

Damn, he was taking way longer now than before. The wait made me even more anxious, my heart was beating fast. It felt like a long time passed before he shot.

“Now!” I shouted.

The boss quickly stirred the wheels to avoid the arrow. After the car was back in lane, we quickly switched positions. I was able to safely transfer myself to the driver’s seat.

“Wow! This feels nice!” I felt so hyped.

It felt really exciting as I stepped at the gas as hard as I can. It was as if I was in a movie doing a car chase scene. The boss was right though, the car cannot go any faster.

“Bathin, come.” The boss uttered as he removed the glove on his left hand.

The demon’s mark on his left hand glowed and orange tattoo like marks appeared on his skin which turned greyish. A pair of horns appeared at the back of his neck and four long red hair like thick strands appeared on his head. His nails grew long and sharp and eyes appeared one on each palm and another on his forehead.

“Wow.” The words escaped my mouth, he looked really cool.

“Focus on the road. Leave his attacks to me.” The boss declared.

“Got it!” I replied.

Although I know that the boss is reliable, I cannot help but feel anxious to the event that he fails. I tried to focus ahead but I still glanced at the rear view mirror and the boss from time to time.

The centaur shot another arrow. The boss placed his right hand forward with his arm straight. He opened his palm and the eye on it awakened. A swirling bluish dark colored portal appeared in front of the boss.

The arrow came and was sucked by the portal. The eye on his palm closed as well as the portal. He lowered his right arm but the eye on his forehead opened next. Another portal appeared in front of the boss and the arrow that was earlier sucked in shot out of it, piercing the centaur’s right foreleg.

The centaur slowed down because of the hit. The arrow was stuck on his flesh as blood dripped down, staining the road. The centaur pulled the arrow and used it to aim another shot at us.

“This is bad.” The boss said.

“Why? You just hit it, right?” I asked.

“His wound is gone.”

I was curious as to what the boss was talking about. I looked at the mirror and the wound was indeed nowhere to be seen. Even the blood that was dripping before did not leave a trace or a stain.

The boss raised his arm again to create another portal. The portal this time appeared on the road, below the centaur. His left leg went through the hole; that is when the boss quickly closed off the portal.

The enemy’s left leg was cut off with its dismembered component consumed by the portal. Blood burst out of the part that was cut yet he continued running. As he was still following us, the release of blood suddenly halted and his wound started to regenerate. A new leg started to grow.

“Cray, at the following intersections, turn right then left then left then just drive straight ahead.” The boss commanded as he pulled out his phone and fiddled with it.

“Got it. Right, left, left, straight.” I repeated his commands and he just nodded in response.

The enemy’s left leg was back to being the way it previously was. By the way the boss reacted, it seemed like he did not have a method or technique to deal with this kind of opponent. It seemed like he has a plan though.

I decided to wait and see if his plan will work or not before making my move if necessary. For now, I will just follow his orders.

I wonder what the boss is up to. Thinking about what it may be kind of made me thrilled.
