The night was young when I sat to interview Raymart. He usually sleeps around 4 or 5 in the morning. We scheduled at 12 midnight but we did it in advance, 25 minutes ahead of schedule to be exact. There were many intrusions like power outage, internet connection lost and me not having the proper sets of questions. It was all my fault on my end. Luckily, we managed to finish the interview and what a mega Spoiler it had been.

I asked what Raymart was doing at the onset of our interview.

Can you tell us more about yourself?
My full name is Raymart Revita Bayang
Pero short name na tinatawag sakin 'Rey'
22 yrs old na
Lives in Malolos, Bulacan

Nag work ako as Sales Clerk so ngayong quarantine wala ako pasok
Undergraduate ako sa Bulacan State University sa kursong HVA/R (Heating, Ventulating, Air-conditioning and Refrigeration)
I planned to make an article during the interview but was interrupted by recurring blackouts. All my notes were not recovered. Luckily, the interview was pushed through thanks to Facebook's database so all of his answers were saved. Thank you cloud servers !!!
What inspired you to create “Monster” series?
My Friends in my 2nd yr High School..
May nakilala ako isang kaklase na may hilig din sa pag dadrawing tapos tiningnan ko gawa nya, parang nagkaroon ako ng pag kakumpetensiya o pagka inggit. Kaya nag-drawing din ako pinakita ko sa kanya so ayun nag drawing-drawing na kami, haha. Tapos may ginawa syang iba’t ibang characters na Monsters. Tapos nun sinundan ko yung characters na yun ginawan ko na ng kwento at dun nabuo ang Monster. Ngayun o hanggang ngayon best friend ko pa din siya, haha. Naging best friend kami, Raymond Carlos Garcia is his name.
What series or work inspired you to make your artwork? What influenced you most on your style?
One Piece, yung time na nabuo ang Monster , mahilig din kami sa One Piece.
2012 ng September nag Start yung Monster.
Di lang kasi ako nagtaguyod nun pati narin yung best friend ko.
Nagtataka ba kayo kung bakit yung hairstyle ni Little ay kahawig ni Goku kapag super saiyan form .. Ang totoo hindi ko ginaya yung hairstyle nya. Ang totoo, inihawig ko sya kay Jin sa Tekken para astig at medyo demonic, haha. Pero kinulayan ko ito ng orange, hindi yellow :’(

Here’s what Raymart has stated (spoiler alert)…
Nung unang panahon normal o ordinaryo lang ang naninirahan sa mundo hanggang may bumagsak na isang bulalakaw. At dito nagsimula ang pagkakaroon ng taglay na kapangyarihan.
First time I read Monster, I can already foresee that the series has more of a background story not introduced initially in its pilot episode. Spoiled me kaagad. Damay damay na.
Madami na din naman nakabasa ng first comics ko sa mga classmates ko. Sa Monster, kami kami din ang mga gumaganap nito. Ako syempre si Monster dun. Si Raymond naman (bff ko) si Kung Fu Kid. Base sa ugali namin ang characters dun. Di ko na din maii-mention yung ibang gumanap kasi kinalimutan na nila ako saka ang Monsters...
May nagtanong pala sakin kung bakit wala daw babae sa series ko. Ang sagot, meron po, at kasali din sya sa grupo ng Monster abangan nyo po. Yung kwento na ipinagmamalaki kong nagawa sa lahat ng Monster ay 'The Electric Phantom'. Nag base din kasi ito sa buhay ko...
May nagtanong sakin kung bakit di ko daw itinuloy yung “Monster: The Last One”.. sagot, last year kasi yung wala pa ko trabaho. Nung time na nag-fafacebook ako may isang lalaki, nagchat sakin na sumali ako sa group, at isinali nya ko. Tapos na discover ko ang Webkom Group sa facebook at nakita ko mga pinoy din na gumagawa ng comics. Napaisip ako, hala parang gusto ko sumali sa kanila? Tapos nag-ask ako na puede ba ako sumali sa group nilang webkom? Aya, sige daw po tapos binigyan nila ako ng logo by email...
Then nag-iistart na ko gumawa ng “The Last One”. Kinasamaang palad nung may nag-text sakin ng work na mag-start agad, dun ko nahinto ang “The Last One”. Sa makikita nyo sa webtoons 4 chapters lang ang meron pero yung 5 and 6 di ko pa napupublish.
I urged Raymart to continue on discussing his work. I can tell, for a hobby, he is very keen on doing the series. This showed his enthusiasm as an artist. I asked if there's a timeline to his series, or a deadline he's working on.
Yung sa “The Last One”, nagdadalawang isip ako kung bakit ko sinimulan ito kasi kalapit ito ng ending.. Kasi parang gusto ko na agad matapos or gusto ko ng gawin dahil maganda yung story. Gusto sana i-delete muna pasamantala yung the last one, para hindi malito ang readers kung ano yung simula, haha. Yung hero academia pala parang tugma din sila sa series ko. Sa series ko kasi, sa lahat ng batang may superpowers dinadala ito sa SEKRET academy kung saan nag-aral si Gitaru. Tapos pinipilit ni Gitaru si little na dun mag aral pero ayaw nya.
Ok, I may want to refrain from asking because of too many spoilers in his series but.... lego.
Si Little kasi may dalawang kapatid isa dun si Gitaru .. siya ay lumabas sa "The Last One". For “Monster” readers, sorry kung yung “The Electric Phantom” sa book is konti lang yung fighting scene (favorite ko pa naman lumaban si Fury kaso wala syang fighting scene haha). May nakita akong meme na nagtataka kung bakit naka-jacket or hoodie ang mga main character nila.. Sagot ko sa main ko well, suot nya yung Jacket nya dahil kahinaan po nya yung init ng araw (hindi po sinag) kaya sya naka-jacket para maprotektahan sya sa araw. Base po yun sa chapter 2 ng “The Electric Phantom”. Hindi po sya spoil, haha.
I was still spoiled since I have not read episode 2 yet.
Since nasabi mo nga na finalize na ung story, mga ilang chapters pa should we expect?
Kung isasama ko buong series nasa 100+ ata. Yung last series kasi ang pinakamahabang kwentong nagawa ko. Parang Harry Potter. May part 2 yung last series. Like avengers din may part 2.
For how long do you plan to continue your series "Monster"?
As long as I can. Wala naman akong naiisip na gawin. Napapaisip kasi ako isang araw titigil ako sa pagddrawing.
Do you think if may want mag reboot ng comics mo for its story, would you collaborate with them?
Pede din. Basta kahit dagdag ng story o bawasan ang story yan ang ayaw ko.
Kapag sinabihan ka ba na dagdagan story mo? Dadagdagan mo ba?
If meron, bakit hindi.
As much as I want to spoil the readers, I already knew the theme ending of the story throughout the interview. But the author asked me not to mention it. PM me na lang. Hohoho. "Bff ko lang ang nakakaalam ng story ending ng Monster."
Since the electricity outage, all my previous notes were gone. I asked for an apology from Raymart. He accepted. Mabait tong si Raymart eh, and moving on with the interview, he talked about his life amidst the pandemic.

Do you see yourself as a future music artist?
Pinangarap ko din, haha. Kaso hindi eh, haha. Gusto ko lang magkaroon ng kanta, ayun lang, haha. Saka music video na din. Nag shoot nako ng MV ng bring night kaso di ko pa naeedit eh, haha.
Is it your passion or just a hobby making comics?
Hobby ko gumawa ng comics and passion to make them animated movie.
Ahh I see. So you are more on making videos? What kind?
Music Videos or lip sync videos, haha. Siguro kapag nakapag-upgrade na ako nang computer. Mumurahing laptop kasi gamit ko, haha. Kaya hirap din mag animate. Once ko ginamit krita, nag lag sobra.
Kelan ka pa nahilig gumawa ng mga animated clips? What inspired you to pursue this goal?
When I was young magddrawing ako sa libro tapos bawat pages iniisa-isa ko yun hangang sa gumalaw... Hanggang sa nahiligan ko na.. haha. Tapos napanuod ko din behind the animated movie sosobrang galing. Tapos nangangarap gumaling sa animated sa panunuod ng gawa sa animation group sa facebook. (Youtube?) Yes nanunuod din ako dun , yung step by step kung paano nila ginagawa. Medyo mahirap din gumawa
Yan ba want mo as a career (making video animation) to be or nahilig lang?
Yes, kung mag-aaral ulit ako, gusto ko mag Media Arts. Kaso natigil ako dahil kakulangan ng kaya, haha. Nakaipon na po sana ako, eh biglang dumating si covid, malas.
Ipon lang. Kaya naman. As long as you keep doing it as your end goal. Friendly Tip: wag ka muna mag syo-syota.
Stay single pa din po ako. Priority ko kasi yung family ko. Binalak ko sana mag aral this year para sa ipon ko.
Generally speaking, the pandemic did cause a lot of setbacks. Most businesses lost revenue, economies plummeted, people lost jobs, and most of all, many people died. Gradually, the new normal is picking up pace. Hoping soon, everything would be back on track.
Let's say upgraded na PC mo then may software ka na din to make animations, would you stop making comics series and transition to making animations?
Yes will continue, hihinto ko lang kapag tapos na ang series, may time naman para dito. Siguro, yung nagwowork ako nahirapan din ako magbigay ng time sa comics.
We discussed the comics and animation industry as a whole and Raymart mentioned his future dreams and plans of making it as an animator in Japan.

Focus on your dreams. Don't give up. You can do what you will.

Due to many setbacks in life, we seldom lose our paths. Just like the making of this article, all notes were revised due to the electricity outage.
